How To Handle A Drug Intervention
If you are participating in an intervention, you need to keep it objective and avoid accusations along with blaming the person that has the addiction.
Step 1) Contact a Professional Interventionist:The first step in any intervention involves contacting a professional team like us to help with the process. This can make the difference in an intervention failing or succeeding.
Step 2) Create a safe place: You don’t want your loved one to feel attacked so it’s important to pick a safe place for the intervention.
Step 3) Examples: Compassionately point out how the addiction has spiralled out of control. Point out that the addiction causes negative behavior in them, but that the addiction treatment will help change this. When you want to plan an intervention for a loved one or friend, you can consult with our professional interventionist team at Quest 2 Recovery. We will do our best to help you get your loved one to see that there is a better way of life.
Step 4) Positive Reinforcement:During the intervention, a team of family members, friends, and co-workers may be involved to help show the user that everything is and will be okay. Most addicts tend to shy away from help for multiple reasons, but if you come from a loving and supportive place then things will work out more than likely.
Step 5) Treatment Plan: Don’t go into an intervention without a treatment plan in place. It’s important to have an immediate option for the individual to seek care. There should be no downtime between an agreement to get help and admission to treatment.
Something to think about….
- More often than not, it is better to not include anyone who may be currently struggling with addiction.
- You will want to schedule a time and day that this meeting will occur and make a guest list for those that should attend. Before any meeting starts, an outline of the meeting and the topics covered should be made. This will only help the process go smoother.
Different Types Of Interventions
Some interventions are different from others and you should know that some types of interventions are better used based on an individuals motivations and the stage of addiction. Some interventions are more confrontational in nature and others are more consultative.
The goal of any intervention is to voluntarily get a loved one to agree to treatment. If an individual is forced into getting care, sometimes it is more difficult to get them to engage in the treatment process. Voluntary admission to treatment is always the best option.
At the meeting, everyone who is in attendance should have something to say that helps support the person struggling with the addiction. This might mean someone being able to give rides to the treatment center or be willing to participate in family therapy when available. Even if you decide you want to visit the person and spend time with them when they are in rehab it helps. If the person refuses help, then you as the family and friends should stop any behavior that contributes to the addiction otherwise known as enabling.
When you are having an intervention, the interventionist will always try to keep the tone of the intervention from becoming too emotional otherwise it may cause complications.

Our Intervention Program
DRUG INTERVENTIONS IN LOS LANCASTER, CA
When someone is suffering from addiction, you need to support them in any way possible without enabling them. As friends and family, you need to do your best with comforting your addicted loved one and letting them know everything will be okay. Interventions can be a wake-up call to your loved one and help provide you with what they might be going through. It can point out many problems they are having, including problems at work, with family and neighbors, all due to their addiction.
The change has to come from the person suffering with the addiction. You or anyone else can’t make the change for them. This is why dealing with addiction can be so hard. Interventions are an effective tool to show that a person needs help and there is a better road to follow.
While it might be difficult to approach a loved one, positive changes come from interventions done in a professional setting with a family member present. It is imperative to have a plan, process and drug or alcohol rehabilitation center on standby once the individual agrees to make a change. There is nothing worse than doing an intervention and having the suffering individual agree to make a change and then form a treatment plan afterwords. Instead, call an addiction treatment center that can’t take them based on their current availability.
Intervention services are commonly used for the following disorders and addictions:
Mental Health
Substance Abuse
Alcohol misuse
Dual-diagnosis
